The Nirvanic Heart is a popular book going around these days. We caught up with it’s author Dr. Aswin Shaji who talked his heart out in this exclusive interview:

1. Tell us something about yourself in brief.

Dr.Aswin Shaji is a MBBS doctor from Kollam, Kerala, following his passion for both the healing arts and the literary arts. He did his schooling in IISJ Saudi Arabia and MBBS at Amrita institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.

He is the Author of ‘The Nirvanic Heart’ and is the Co-Author in 20 books. His patience to listen to one’s stories and his keen view of life is what inspires him to blot his ink on paper. His love for poetry arises from the reflected shades of life and the sublimation of nature with the soul.

2. How did the idea of writing your debut book come into your mind?

Poetry has always been a part and parcel of my life. Writing naturally comes to me and calls me to do it’s bidding and place my ink on paper. I believe each word is inspired from the people around me and the people I interact and empathize with.

3. As a writer do you think being a full time writer in India can be a sustainable job?

The thing about writing is that it is not only the quality, but also the exposure and timing of the work that can make or break a work. So, I believe that instead of focusing solely on writing, one has to have a side job too so that they have all options in life present and to have the freedom to explore all facets of life.

4. What books have you read recently that have created an impact on you?

There is a translated Chinese work-The Coiling Dragon. The protagonist in that book focuses on one thing to the core-hard work. All achievements that he has achieved in the book is due to his persistence and calm mind which lead him on his path of excellence.

5. Who are the people and organizations who have helped you in your writing journey?

I would initially like to thank my parents and relatives, who have always appreciated my written work and my thirst for the written word. I would also like to thank my teachers who gave me many opportunities to fine tune my talent.

Finally, I would like to thank Instant Publication for the help they gave in my publishing process.

6. Who is your favorite author apart from yourself?

I would say the first author who comes to my mind is Chetan Bhagat.

7. How important is marketing for a book to succeed?

I would say that it is one of the core reasons for a book to succeed. A book can be a fantastic read from the first page and leave you wanting for more by the last, but if you cannot market it properly, then no one but your immediate circle will know about the book.

8. What is your advice to anyone who has just started his writing journey?

Write, write and keep on writing. Always write and show your friends and family so that they can critique and help you grow.

Secondly, be a voracious reader too so that you will pick up new vocabulary and writing styles and by the end of the day also be a more wholesome human being.
