Take Control, Reclaim Your Life: Taking Charge Shows How to Reverse Diabetes Naturally

By Author Abhishek Gaggneja

Taking Charge: Living Beyond Diabetes is an inspiring and practical memoir that challenges the conventional narrative around Type 2 diabetes. Author Abhishek Gaggneja shares his deeply personal journey of diagnosing diabetes in his early 30s and refusing to accept a lifetime tethered to medication. Instead, through dedication, lifestyle changes, and a shift in mindset, he reversed his condition and reclaimed his health.

This book goes beyond medical jargon and overwhelming advice to provide a clear, step-by-step blueprint tailored to real-life challenges—especially within the Indian context. Abhishek highlights the role of traditional home-cooked meals, movement, stress management, and understanding insulin resistance, liver health, and inflammation in reversing diabetes naturally.

Filled with relatable stories, practical tips, and motivational insights, Taking Charge empowers readers to take control of their health, break free from dependency, and find renewed hope. Whether you’re newly diagnosed or struggling to manage your diabetes, this book is a heartfelt guide to transforming your relationship with your body and reclaiming a vibrant, diabetes-free life

Q: Could you provide an overview of your book and explain how it addresses major health challenges faced globally today?
This book is my honest attempt to tackle a growing health crisis—Type 2 diabetes. But more than just the disease, it’s about the lifestyle patterns and misinformation that have left millions feeling stuck, helpless, and dependent on medication for life. Processed, adulterated food, obesity, lack of movement, and chronic stress are taking India toward a Diabetes Pandemic; even our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi recently addressed how severe India’s situation is.

Taking Charge is both a guide and a personal letter to anyone who’s ever been told, “This is for life.” It walks you through how I reversed my diabetes, step by step, and offers a practical, Indian-context blueprint so others can do the same. It’s not just about managing numbers—it’s about reclaiming your health and your hope.

Q: What motivated you to write this book, and what unique expertise or experiences do you bring to the topic?
The inspiration comes from my own life. I was diagnosed with diabetes in my early 30s, already dealing with fatty liver and past trauma from battling tuberculosis as a child. I was told to “manage it” with meds forever—but I refused to settle for that.

Over the years, I transformed my health naturally, became deeply involved in the science behind aging, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine, and even founded Goodveda and Svasthya.ai. This book distills everything I’ve learned—not from textbooks—but from lived experience, real-world application, and seeing lives change.

Q: What are some key insights or practical takeaways readers can expect to gain from your book?
Definitely. Some of the biggest lightbulbs for readers are:

  • Diabetes can be reversed. That’s not just theory—I did it, and so have many others I’ve guided.
  • The focus needs to shift from just sugar to insulin resistance, liver health, and inflammation.
  • Our traditional Indian food—daal, sabzi, ghee, home-cooked meals—can actually be your medicine.
  • You don’t need fancy supplements or extreme diets. What you need is clarity, consistency, and a clear roadmap.
  • The 90-day plan in the book is simple enough for anyone to follow—no jargon, no fluff.

Q: Can you share any real-life examples or case studies from your book that demonstrate the principles you discuss?
Absolutely. Apart from my own journey, I’ve shared stories of people from different walks of life—like a working mom who reversed her diabetes with simple food swaps and walking routines, or a young IT guy who balanced long work hours and still turned his health around without medication.

These aren’t celebrities or influencers—just regular folks who decided to take charge. Their stories are powerful reminders that this is possible, and sustainable, when done right.

Q: Were there any significant challenges you faced while writing this book, and how did you overcome them?
Writing this book meant revisiting some painful chapters—being sick, feeling like I’d failed, watching my health slip away. It wasn’t easy. And then came the challenge of translating everything I’d learned into something simple, practical, and not preachy.

What helped was focusing on the people I wanted to help. I kept imagining someone reading this at 2 a.m., scared after a diagnosis, and needing both guidance and hope. That helped me push through.

Q: What do you hope readers will achieve by reading your book, and how do you envision it positively impacting their lives?
My biggest hope is that readers walk away feeling empowered. That they stop seeing diabetes as a curse and start seeing it as a signal—an invitation to change.

I want this book to be the first step toward a better life—one where you’re not just surviving, but thriving. Where food becomes healing, and your body starts to feel strong, light, and alive again. If it can spark that journey for even one person, it’s worth it.

Q: How does your book remain relevant and adaptable to readers in a constantly changing world?
Because the core ideas in this book aren’t trendy—they’re timeless. Sleep well. Move your body. Eat clean, real food. Reduce stress. These are truths that will never go out of style.

That said, the book also respects how dynamic life is. Whether you’re a working professional, a homemaker, in your 20s or 60s—it’s written to adapt to your rhythm. It’s flexible, and it grows with you. That’s what makes it real—and relevant.
